Hi, my name is Ed Hamilton

I’m the founder of Odyssey.

We all have our own unique stories to tell, so here is a little bit about me & my own ODYSSEY to date on this crazy journey called life.

My Own Journey With Pain

The work I have and continue to dedicated my life too is derived from my own odyssey of a serious back injury when I was 15. From what started as a small niggle coming off the soccer field, to 4 years later I had become limited in my ability to express any sort of pain free movement. From this time, the overwhelming fear began to hang over me that this was going to be my life forever.

I spent years going in and out of physiotherapist & chiropractors rooms with the short term benefits being outweighed by the long term frustrations of seeing little to no results.

Continuing to work through the process of finding a solution to my problem, it wasn’t until I started to invest my time, energy and resources into a set process & systemised approach to treating my pain. It has been through education, application & constant reinforcement of this process, that I began to reap the rewards from my hard work & dedication on my journey to pain free movement. From this work I was able to regain the belief that I could reinvent my life & no longer be a victim of pain.

My passion to provide to those in need & whom can benefit from the skill set I have dedicated my life too, comes from this journey of my own pain.

This is my WHY, my MSSION and I feel my DUTY of care to continue to help & be in service of those who seek a better & more fulfilled life for themselves.

Early Personal Training Days

In 2013 after completing my certifications in Fitness from Central TAFE, I was sent on my way to uncover what this vast & unknown territory of the fitness industry had to offer me.

At the time I was just a young 20 year old kid, who was passionate about health & fitness and had just found this new exciting training style called CrossFit which had me absolutely hooked. I had not a clue in the world about what or how to do 90% of the movements I saw watching Youtube videos but I knew for sure this was something I wanted to sink my teeth into.

Fortunately very early on in my career, I had the opportunity to work with one of the leading fitness professionals in the nation, Dan Williams out of Range of Motion in Perth, Western Australia. A CrossFit Affiliated gym BUT with a difference. Coming from a background in Exercise Physiology with a large focus on Injury Rehabilitation, it was under Dan at R.O.M I developed my passion for movement.

Unlike traditional CrossFit gyms our services were provided in a 1 on 1 PT format, allowing for greater touch & individualisation with each and every client. From my time spent working at R.O.M, I was given the opportunity to develop a skill set in not only coaching but understanding movement. Through the practical application of this education I began to thrive in the concept of “Movement as Medicine” & how by working to develop one’s awareness of quality movement is how we as humans are able to tap into & express our fullest potential.

What I didn’t know is that the next 5 years working under Dan and being a part of the amazing coaching team he had orchestrated would shape a lot of not just the coach but the person I am today and I will forever be grateful for my time, the friends and memories I made through this part of my odyssey.

The Gap Year

In June 2017 at the ripe old age of 24, I had come to a cross road in my life were I needed to make a decision on the two paths I saw moving forward for myself:

#1 - Im 24, single guy, living in a 1 bedroom apart in the city. Since leaving school I had dedicated myself & life to my work. I had put a lot of other areas in my life on the back burner & had worked hard to put myself in a position financially that I could afford to invest in my first home. I could see the next “X” amount of years playing out the same as they had been for the previous 5. Some would say from the outside looking in, I was doing well for myself and had a stable future ahead of me.

#2 - I was LOST, outside of the walls of the gym through the time and energy I had devoted so much of to my work & training, this had lead me on a journey lost of its PURPOSE.

Feeling tired, burnout with a loss of passion & desire to be a coach / personal trainer any more, I knew I had to make some changes.

So it was with a very heavy heart, that I stepped away from the business for an extended period of time, packed up my things, moved out of the apartment and set off to live back in the UK for 6 months.

Timing is Everything

Upon returning from my time away and a much needed reset, I found myself in limbo unsure of what my journey moving forward had in store for me. After a discussion with Cal & Shelby, my good friends & owners of The Movement Fitness & Well-being, I decided to make the move down south to start the next chapter of my odyssey.

Fast forward 6 years & my life is almost unrecognisable to myself. Engaged to my beautiful partner Kaylee, a growing family & a home owner no further than 5 mins from Dunsborough’s town centre. The hub for all this joy, The Movement.

Over the last 6 years I have been lucky enough to join the amazing community that is The Movement Fitness & Well-being. Here I have been given numerous opportunities to grow, learn, fail and challenge myself in many different areas of my work.

It is also here that I developed M.A.I.P (Movement Assessments & Improvement Programs…. I know catchy right), although I didn’t know it at the time, this was to become the first iteration & step forward to what Odyssey is today.

Beginning this journey with a few of my PT clients working with different corrective movement protocols, we started to see movement irritations & limitations improving with repeated successes. This led to redeveloping “The Movements - New Member Intro Sessions” process. Through this opportunity I could begin to see where MAIP fitted into the healthcare space, “Bridging The Gap” between rehabilitation and strength & conditioning training. Taking the same painful movements & becoming pain free!

To learn a little more about M.A.I.P, you can check out our blog, MAIP at The Movement here:

Over the last 3 years of honing in my focus, my craft and my skill set to being in service of those on their personal journey to overcoming the physical limitations, inhibiting them from living the most fulfilled & pain free version of their life, is when I realised my purpose.. my WHY for what MAIP was achieving & what it was to become.

My Purpose

Being connected to something bigger than myself, allowing me to stretch my reach, my connection, my impact to anything greater than I could ever do as an individual.

Knowing that through the life I have chosen to live with intention & purpose of service, for this to one day leave a legacy behind that my family is proud of & one that will continue to positively enrich & impact the lives of others, to live more fulfilled, happier & healthier lives.

 ODYSSEY

Odyssey is therefore the evolution of this journey through the last 11 years of my life as a trainer, coach & mentor to so many amazing people. It has been on this adventure that I have developed my passion & drive to finding solutions to the “high value” problems that for many have otherwise gone untreated, undiagnosed or unsolved over an extended period of time, much like how my own journey started.

My personal growth as a coach & business owner is hands down correlated over to having the opportunity to work with & learn from each and every individual, both work colleagues & clients along this journey. Allowing me the opportunity to continuously sharpen my craft on a daily basis, helping me to build a skill set that I will forever endeavour to develop so I am able to deliver the best possible service to every individual for their specific & unique needs.

My PURPOSE with Odyssey is to continually provide the best possible service through education, mentorship & shared resources with every individual on their own personal journey to regaining a fulfilled & empowered life, free of pain but equipped with the necessary skill & mindset to manage life’s ups & downs that come as part of living a healthy & active lifestyle.

I know the road to the life you dream of can seem long & even scary BUT it doesn’t have to be, Odyssey is here to help guide, support, encourage and show you a path forward that may not of seem possible before.

This is why our service is prioritise around accountability & guidance. No matter the quality of any given program, adherence & therefore action are the corner stone of a successful journey. The systems we intentionally utilise are implemented to continually progress our team members towards achieving their goals, whilst overcoming the hurdles they have had & continue to face on the life cycle of their journey with pain.

I pride myself on bringing a high level skill set to each and everyone one of my sessions, which comes from this accumulation of work over the last decade of my life.

My MISSION with Odyssey is to help rid the world of common and undiagnosed movement dysfunctions. To REINVENT the hope, belief & confidence in those who previously saw no path forward.
